Jed Miller lives and works in New York City, where he is Internet director for the Revenue Watch Institute. Revenue Watch promotes responsible management of natural resource wealth for the public good in developing nations and around the globe. Jed also lectures on new media, journalism and communications at Columbia University's School of International Public Affairs.
Previously, Jed was director of Internet programs at the American Civil Liberties Union, where he oversaw strategy and publishing for ACLU.org, launched the ACLU's blog, podcasting and multimedia initiatives, and planned online communications, fundraising and advocacy in collaboration with the membership and legislative departments.
From 1996 to 2001, he was interactive editor at NYTimes.com, where he was responsible for all reader discussions and live online events, including the web forums for the Pulitzer Prize-winning series on race in America, in 2000. He also produced the first issue of The New York Times Magazine available on the web. As community director at Web Lab he created online dialogues on civic and social issues, including the 2002 "Listening to the City" citizen summit on the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan.
He is a founding contributor to the Personal Democracy Forum and has written and consulted for the Kettering Foundation, The New York Times Company Foundation. the Harwood Institute, AmericaSpeaks, Audible.com, PlaNetwork Journal and Global Kids, Inc., among other groups.
Jed is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Amherst College.
